I had this issue earlier. It is strange and frustrating.
Though I found that I was getting bit errors over my PVR-250 into the backend. For about 6 hours I used my keyboard. Then I checked the output for the backend and found that the errors went away and I could then bounce the lircd stuff and it worked. Not sure what "magic" happened at all.

I’m lost, just cannot figure this out. Lirc will not
function properly. I cannot even get irw to load to
give me some output. Here are the details

I had an issue with ivtv not loading, like many
people. So I “echo "/sbin/modprobe ivtv" >>
/etc/rc.d/rc.local”

I don’t have this hooked up to a video source yet. Its
just for a front end, would really like the remote to
work. It will connect and play recordings from the
backend.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Jordack
