You'd be surprised. I was in a magazine about a month ago, and was contacted by the RIAA within a week of the article appearing. The lawyers demanded to see evidence of my "claimed" 2,000 CDs.
I've spent the last month and more than a few dollars in legal fees defending every single bit of music I own. Fortunately, I've been able to prove ownership of every track of music on my computer. It has not been a fun experience, and I hope you don't have to go through the same thing. Although it sounds like you deserve to. No TV company is going to care about 2 of nerds sharing TV recordings at 25kb/s upload =) Plus if you are running the share over an encrypted VPN how are they gonna know, anyway? I just calculated I could be sued for $433,350,000 for my music collection alone. $9,450,000 for my application collection. At least $10,500,000 for my CD image collection. "Legality" is overblown.
