I have SPDIF passthrough running on an intel8x0 some suggestions: 1. Make friends with alsamixer, 2. I had to issue an "iecset audio on" to get digital audio working, it took me ages to work that one out, 3. I have these options in my modprobe, but can't remember why :-( options snd-intel8x0 ac97_clock=0 enable=1 index=0
