Is it really worth saving a few bucks? For my place at least, I would
figure on several hours in the attic, having to run fishtape down the
walls to drop CAT5, messing with plate covers, having to punch down
the jacks in a couple of spots (1 up from the router, 1 down to the
xbox), test and pray the connections are right and that I didn't bust
one of the wires in the cat 5 on a nail in one of the wall studs,
getting covered with dust and attic grime, and to top it off it's
mighty cold, even here in the southeast US. And then when the fiance
wants to redecorate the place and move the entertainment center to the
other side of the room from where the network jack is.....

For my money, it's worth the $85-$90 I'd spend at Amazon or Buy.com to
pick up the Wireless-G xbox network adapter (or similar Linksys one,
or whoever you like). Plug that sucker into the xbox ethernet port,
configure for < 5min, and BAM!, you're on the network.

I like "do it yourself-idness" as much as anyone, but I hate
fiberglass more than most, and that pink crap in my attic makes me
itchy just thinking about it.
