I had the same problem with kde and followed the instructions from mythtv.info http://mythtv.info/moin.cgi/HardWare_2fVideoCaptureCards_2fPvR350_2fHintsAndTips However, you may want to look into using Ratpoison if your only using your box for Mythtv.
