Some shows (~15% of the time) either start
recording late, (30 minutes for example), or in some cases not at all.
>From looking at the logs, it looks normal (show starts recording and ends on
time), but the resulting file (before transcoding) only contains some final part
of the recording (sometimes an hour of a 1 1/2 hour recording, or the last 5
minutes of an hour-long one - there's no predictable interval. The latest
example from my logs is here (from the looks of it the software changed the
channel and said it was recording on time, but then the message "Changing from
None to RecordingOnly" starts 2 hours late, by which the recording should be
done (hence the next message.) The only interesting coincidence is that
transcoding finished just before the "late start and late end" of the
recording.
- mythbackend log,
comments prefaced by "<-----"; should be 30-minute recording starting at
06:30. This resulted in an empty video file apart from the MythTV headers
on the file post-transcoding. The file was truncated prior to being
transcocded.

The issue I describe is occurring both on
Mythtv 0.16 as well as CVS head as of 1/25/05.
- single PC with
both frontend and backend running together under the same
username
- SuSE 9.1 with
2.6.5-7.111.30-default, Athlon 64, PVR-250, RCA DirectTV unit w/RCL.pl channel
changing script
- ivtv driver,
versions 2 rc2 and v2rc3 don't alter results
- system clock is
accurate, sync'ed via NTP every 24 hours
- no time shift is
configured between backend and front-end
Thanks
Jason
