The first statement in it vindicates the author of the article:
"In truth, there may be a few people out there who are using MythTV for ill ends,"

In truth, some people might buy baseball bats with the intent of breaking someone's legs.

I'm not about to distort the truth. I'm quite sure that there are people in the mythtv community who are using it to record TV shows to share with people on p2p networks. Heck, I'll be the first to admit that some of my softare -- nuvexport -- is probably one of the things that made this easily possible. But that's not why I wrote it.

However, not only is sharing not condoned by the MythTV developers, it's outright discouraged -- but it still happens. The article reads like Isaac was going out of his way to build something capable of replacing his cable box so that he could "steal" something (tv or cable-box revenues) from his cable provider. It's not true, and they need to be made aware of that.

I honestly don't care if the NYT publishes my letter (nor do I expect them to). I needed to vent, and it seemed that a bunch of MythTV users needed that, too.
