And how far off the truth are they. I know the developers are very against file sharing. Yet there is a market for it. We already "share" our television recording around the house.

From the article "[MYTHTV USERS] have plenty of more mischievous company". Then it starts talking about file sharing.

Granted the article never left Myth in the clear, yet it didn't criminalize it either.

I agree that they shouldn't state MythTV create illegal file sharing however I don't think they have done anything out of the ordinary for a news organization. And that is telling the story people want to read, whether is fires them up or leaves them with a good happy feeling they want readers, and reader == money to them.

However after reading the letter to NYT, I too have signed it, but I don't really think they will make a big deal about it.

I was in CircuitCity yesterday and you know, there are far more easier and available options to all the Windows users out there than it takes to build a mythtv system and export the recordings and share them. Why not pick on the Windows products like all the usb tv capture systems and the PVR-X50 products for Windows. All you do is connect them to the Windows pc, start record the files directly into your filesharing directory. I built my mythtv system to have control over what sources I record from, playing all my music from one location, and archiving my favorite shows. Do you think we would spend thousands (yes I have) dollars to build a fancy MythTV system just to share the files to others for free? If I wanted to do that I would just buy the $69 PVR-150 and start recording with the included software on a Windows computer and be done with it.
