I used an Athlon 650 for two years as a frontend/backend with two WinTV model 401 cards. I tried all kinds of settings in the recording profiles until I could successfully record two shows at a time. The video quality wasn't great but it was good enough to watch any programs that I missed. The "family approval factor" wasn't high but it was positive. The whole time I wanted to upgrade my hardware but it still served its purpose.
