That will only work if your reciver has a serial port. Most do not have the
connection. Some are only useful for controlling devices. Read the archives
for more on how to test for the port. 

You may need to use a ir blaster of some sort. Either thru lirc or by using
a commercial product like MyBlaster.

The ir port on the 250 is only for receiving commands from the remote
control. It will not control anything via ir. With the proper lirc files it
does a great job of controlling mythtv.
