The "generic" approach to getting tv out cards to work is usually 800x 600 or 640x480 resolution with 24bpp and 60 hz refresh rate. You then connect the svideo card to your tv and remove any monitor connections and reboot your pc. With any luck the bios display will show up on the tv and later on X will also work when you type startx or however you do it on your system.

It gets more complicated if you want to have a monitor connected as well. You may need the video card companies drivers. Also while this usually works, your luck may vary.

I have a FX 5500 SVIDEO out to my 27" Sony TV. it's not HD. I have been looking into modeline settings, I really have no idea what I'm doing with it. It somewhat seems like something I need, Can anyone tell me what I should be setting as far as modeline line in my xorg.conf file. Again standard 27" TV NTSC. Thanks for your help
