Yes, you are correct. I assumed he had an lircd.conf file for his remote.

The complete process would be as follows:

stop lircd
irrecord lircd.conf
Press each button and name
cp mylircd.conf to /etc/lircd.conf (having a backup is always a good thing)
edit lircrc and match the names you used in lircd file to the
functions you want in Myth
cp lircrc to ~mythuser/.mythtv/lircrc
restart lircd
voila!
I recommend having a backup of each file in case they get blown away,
or you want to play with different mappings.
