I have been watching this thread as I have had similar issues.

Watching Live TV on either of my two front ends works fine.
Watching a Recording in Progress also seems to be ok.

When watching a previously recorded show the show will exit for some
reason. (Not sure why.) It is not always in the same place. Going
back into the same recording it will play beyond the previous exit and
may exit some place else.

When pausing a previous recording for an extend time. The recording
will play for 2 - 3 seconds after I press play and then exit.

I have save position on exit checked, however when the recording exits
by itself the position is not saved.

This happens on both my front ends.

I have moved by cards in the backend to make sure that each of the two
tuner cards is on a separate IRQ and that the network adapter is also
on a separate IRQ. The frontends and backend are connected by wire
with a D-Link Ethernet switch.

I also used to have problems with my NFS shares between the PCS. I
changed them to use TCP instead of UDP and the problems went away? I
think my switch may still be dumping UDP packets periodically, but I
have not found a good way to debugging this.

Anyone got any advise on where to start looking???

Packet loss like this can happen when a Network card fails to negotiate properly. If one side of the link get set to half-duplex and the other to full-dulpex, you will get many collisions and lost packets.

"ifconfig" may give you some useful stats. Of course the other side (ie switch, or other PC on hub) also would be good to know, but hard to get.
