Here is a suggestion. When you want to watch the digibox directly set mythtv
to watch live tv and then simply watch the appropriate tv input. If myth
needs to record something else it will simply take over and change the
channel. Being able to watch one thing while recording another is why many
of us end up with 2 recievers and cap cards. :)

Heh, don't have to persuade *me*; it's (a) persuading the wife to always go through that extra step and (b) then letting the kids (2 & 5) be trusted with the myth remote ('delete/delete/delete/...').

It's not the end of the world to just change channel once when
entering live tv.

Back on to the original problem: here's a bit of log of myth 'recording' the program, but not calling the script (at all):

Just got blackness. Anyone see anything in that log?

*However*, and this is both elating & worrying, I kicked it into life somehow wehen I got home. I tried live tv, but it was borked & not even really knowing what station was what (no name/text in overlay) or changing station.

I tinkered with the sourceid in the channel table (was 1, thought I'd
try 0). That went horribly wrong so I put it back to 1. One backend +
frontend restart later, there was a flurry of auto-channel-changing
which I guess was cached somehere ... and success!

Live TV is OK, & I've successfully (by the looks of things) made two
recordings. Motorway was poo last night, so I got no other time to look
at it, but tonight I can play a biot more; need to set the DisplaySize
in xorg.conf so that myth doesnt' think my 32" w/s TV is a 15" monitor
(!) and reduce the screen res. for playback (video's a bit choppy at the
current 1024x768).

Then all I've got to worry about is my RGB-.S-Video converter (other
thread). Oh, and upgrading to 0.17 :)

And hope that whatever borked it before doesn't happen again ...
(mind you, that was <24 hours after first successful live-tv + channel
changing, so maybe it'll just stay OK.

Having said that, the frontend had locked up on a black display overnight (had been left on main menu, not live-tv) ...
