You can setup recording profiles, but this applies to the hostname
and more specifically to the *backend* not the frontend.
I've done this before when I used to have two backends both using software
encoding but one of which was much less powerful (they are both powerful
now :) ) So, if you had two backends, you could make a recording profile
for one of them and then set LiveTV to much lower quality. However, I don't
off the top of my head know if you can set a per frontend affinity for a
specific
backend - otherwise you will just get the lowest numbered capture card
available,
which may or may not be in the backend with the low quality settings.
IIRC, a frontend that is also a backend will prefer it's own capture
card for LiveTV. This means that one solution, provided you had two backends,
would be to set LiveTV on the lowest numbered card in the master backend to the
low quality
settings you want. Then set LiveTV to whatever you like on the profile for
combined
frontend/backend machine. If you've just got one backend with 3 tuners, you're
probably out of luck... unless mythstreamtv will do this... (I haven't looked
at it at all)
