By disabling EDID I was able to get X to start up in a 1080i resolution,
but it has the same effect as 540p (or even anything beyond a 640x480 or
720x480).
That's not a modeline problem from the looks of it. The picture
looks in sync, but the interlaced fields are screwed up. Apparently (as
others have said), it's a driver bug.
