Hardware Questions:
1) Anyone sell a "myth-frontent" embedded-style box? ie: Something
like a nice little Via-EPIA with a PVR150, or some other cool
little device? I've considered just buying parts and making
one, doesn't seem I can do this for under $400 though.
Why do you need a pvr150 in a frontend machine?
Good point, I misread the specs. I was looking for a hardware decoder
so I could run a minimal box with a low-end CPU. Having trouble finding
a PCI MPEG2 decoder (without an encoder). Recommendations?
The EPIA boards have an onboard MPEG2 decoder and are well supported with
myth/linux with the unichrome driver.
2) Anyone aware of other very-low-cost off-the-shelf hardware
(preferably with a hardware decoder) that would make a good
mythfrontend? I've seen some references saying an old Tivo
or ReplayTV can't be used for this... but surely it's possible! :)
You could use the Hauppauge mvpc device. That will give you access to
your recordings for about 80$
Interesting. This looks like an embedded linux box with a hardware
decoder. Just what I'm looking for. Has anyone hacked this to add
mythfrontend to it?
Have a look at : http://mvpmc.sourceforge.net
