Agreed.

While it wouldn't be *ideal* if I couldn't watch these programs on
remote frontends in my own house, at some point what we want is going
to clash with reality, and until the US government comes to its senses
and re-figures out what the creative works clause of the Constitution
is there for, I'd like some way to deal with the problem in a way that
gets me most of what I want.

BTW, is this how the firewire-enabled HD cable boxes people evidently
are using work?  I haven't been paying too much attention, but I
recall skimming messages indicating some people are recording/playing
video through cable STB firewire ports.
