Hey Matt,

I greatly appreciate the ready to go package library for Slackware. I decided
to go with Slackware too when I first got into Linux. It's been a tough uphill
learning curve, but sadistically, I have fun doing it. I have hit road blocks
in set up while attempting to use instructions I found for setting up a Myth
system on Slack 9.1. Since you are also using Slack and a newer version at
that..do you have anything written up for step by step instructions on how to
get everything working? I feel like there is just a small item missing from
the existing instructions, but with my limited knowledge, don't know how to
pinpoint it. These are the instructions I used. When you installed 10.1, did
you keep the kernel at 2.4.29, or did you upgrade the kernel?

Shaun,

I was upgrading from a prior mythtv system (slackware 9.1) so I didn't go though the complete config process and thus didn't write out install directions. I would be interested to have instructions to go with my packages, but don't really have time to write them.

If you are interested and have the time to write these directions then I will help you get it up and running so that you are not forced to figured it out on your own. If your interested please email me directly.

Here are some quick and dirty directions on getting things setup.

1. Install slackware 10.1 with 2.4.29 kernel. Make sure you add Xorg, qt, blackbox, alsa, libvorbis, libid3tag, flac, sdl, mysql, and cdda_paranoia.

2. Install all of the packages at http://www.aptalaska.net/~matt.s/mythtv/

3. Configure mysql:
        # su - mysql
        # mysql_install_db
        # chmod 755 /etc/rc.c/rc.mysqld
        # /etc/rc.c/rc.mysqld start
        # mysql < /usr/local/share/mythtv/mc.sql

4. Configure Xorg

5. Start X and run `mythtvsetup` (setup program)

5. Start the backend and frontend.

The lirc package at my site includes the serial homebrew transmitter kernel module for the slackware 10.1 default kernel so it can change channels on your cable box.

Hope that helps,

schu
