What you find easiest to administer. If you have cable connections in both rooms, and you have cash to spend making both systems run quiet and cool, sure. But ONE of the machines as to be the master. >Would it be better to have one machine that runs the backend >and records your shows/etc, then two small units in other rooms >that get their shows off that one backend server? This is what I do. I have one REALLY loud, ugly, cool running machine. Then I have a mix for full-blown PCs or MediaMVPs running as frontends. >Or would it be better to have two units that can both record >shows, and are able to retrieve shows from each other >(therefore, you wouldn't have to stream live tv across a >network). Streaming live TV (or playing videos) would cause the same potential problems. How would you know (or care) where a show is phyisically located. To me, this would be a nightmare to try to keep track of... YMMV. >Looking through the faqs/guides, I don't really see too >much discussion about these options. Not sure which would >work better overall in a system. > >Terrence What works best is what you find easiest to do and can afford at the same time. I find that having the heat and noise producing items (like pvr-250, big hard drives, lots of fans, big psu) isolated to a part of the house where noise doesn't matter is a huge plus (and savings) in my book. That way, I can spend the money on nice looking cases and quiet items (like video cards) for the frontends - if it looks good and works the same all over the house - then the WAF/KAF is high. Paul
