I would be able to write code to automatically acrhive shows, but
what's missing for me, which keeps DVD creation a manual thing, is the
commercial cutting of Mpeg 2 streams. I use avidemux2 and it does
good job, but it has to be done by hand.

Myth needs the functionality to cut commericals from Mpeg 2 and keep
the format Mpeg 2, but if you've perused the developer list some
you'll find that quite a few have taken quite a stab and it and have
not been able to achieve solid results. This problem is a tough nut
to crack. I believe an integrated solution will exist someday, be
patient, lots of people are working on it, its just really hard to
solve.
