I have the backend and frontend split up. The backend is a Dell
Poweredge SC420 that I got for cheap, and the frontend is:

Athlon XP 1700+
Swiftech MCX 462V w/ 92mm Panaflo H1A
512MB PC3200
Abit NF7-S 2.0
Gainward FX5200 64bit (passive)
Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB
LG 16x DVD
Coolermaster Cavalier case

Here's what I've done:
Removed NB fan, replaced with heatsink from an A7N8X that died (passive)
Removed two rear 60mm fans, temps went up a bit, but nothing broke
Removed side 80mm fan, didn't do anything anyway
Used a zalman fan mate (in inventory) to turn down the H1A to the
minimum speed at which it would turn
Turned down CPU voltage to 1.4v, I think I could go lower, but since I
can't move my fan slower, it doesn't matter.

The PSU is very quiet on its own. I also have a transistor and pot so
I can turn down the power LED because it was a damned spotlight. My
next move will be to switch over to compact flash for boot, and NFS
server for binaries, or if that doesn't work, HDD suspension. I might
consider some damping, but I'm also a cheapskate.

While the box is extremely quiet by PC standards, I can still hear it
when the room is completely silent, and there's nothing going on
outdoors - but I'm a silence freak. A single WD200BB hard drive is far
louder than my whole system.
