One thing to consider is myth basically works as one capture card per frontend active at a time. Now suppose you have e front ends and your all playing a different one of those sources then your right you only need one actual tuner.
Of course if your playing three analog cable channels, even if they are the same channel, then you still need three tuners afaik. This can be gotten around sort of by hitting record on the first and then the other two can watch the same channel, but I think you get the idea. I actually doubt the actual analog tuner part on the board costs that much, and given that there are so few good choices I suspect your kinda stuck with just getting the hauppage boards. You could potentially use a wintv or similar for one or two. They still have a tuner, but they are cheaper. The quality is apparently less as well and of course you need a sound card for every wintv board in a machine..
