I've installed mythtv 0.17 and everything works perfect except sound.
Most of my recordings don't have sound, but if I watch live tv and
change the channel the sound comes back. I have a pvr350 and all
output goes through that to the tv so I don't even have a sound card
installed on my myth box.

I'm running Gentoo. I've emerged ivtv so I have version 0.2.0_rc3. I
used ~x86 but I'm not sure if I needed to.
I'm running kernel 2.6.10.
Since everything I've found online suggests that I need to use the
version of msp3400 provided by the ivtv driver not the kernel, I've
removed every other instance of msp3400 from the computer and I'm
still having problems. According to the ivtv-devel list you're
supposed to have "kernel: msp34xx: ivtv version" in your dmesg. I
don't have that. Greping for msp in my dmesg comes up with

kobject_register failed for msp3400 (-17)
msp34xx: init: chip=MSP3448W-A2 +nicam +simple +simpler +radio mode=simple
msp3410: daemon started
msp3400: error while reading chip version
kobject_register failed for msp3400 (-17)

I've tried every possible group of options in /etc/modules.d/ivtv and
nothing seems to make any difference as far as sound goes.

my dmesg is here: http://wildpansy.org:7070/dmesg.txt

I'm fairly new to gentoo but not to Linux in general. When I emerged
ivtv didn't I emerge the correct msp3400?
