The easiest way I know of to get a MythTV box going is to clone
somebody else's. Especially if their distro has nice hardware auto-config
like kudzu.

a) Find friend with box with standard config including the tuner cards
you wish to use or buy.

b) Copy their main partitions (not video, not home). Make your new
disk bootable.

c) Insert your disk in your new machine. Let kudzu handle changes in
motherboard and other peripherals (you should have the same video card
as your friend, and same tuner card)

d) You're up and running! Well, often at least. You may have to
do a bit of playing with sound, and you need to manually wipe a few
tables in their SQL database (pretty easy with any sql administrator
program) and configure for your cable company and your own datadirect account

This is the fastest way I know. Knoppmyth is also aimed to some degree
at this goal.
