I use CVS, but would still find packages useful (RPM, debian, etc.)
for their other characteristics (mostly for file management, so that
/usr/local/ doesn't become a junkyard full of forgotten cruft).

Why doesn't whomever is knowledgeable about RPM/debian/whatever
packaging just submit those packaging files into CVS, so that people
can build their own packages and get the benefits of packaging (file
tracking, etc.), but still be able to tweak for their own installation
if desired?

Would something like that be accepted into CVS? Or do people think it
would be a non-starter due to people's own myriad preferences?

For example, much of mythtv/contrib/etc.* doesn't really work for me
(seems to be RedHat-centric), so I have to assume that any kind of
debian/* stuff I come up with for myself for debian packaging would
similarly not work that well for others ...
