I have not changed any of the profiles from their defaults and, actually, I'm not having the recordings transcoded. Only commercial flagging is on. Moreover, I'm not talking about low quality video but about really "broken" video. I'm no video expert but it appears that blocks of frames are missing and/or timing is messed up. The created NUV files seem to be of the expected size. On the other hand, as I mentioned, LiveTV is perfect. It seems really strange.

I suspect the whole thing started after I apt-get-updated my system at some point, but I'm not sure that the case.

Also, I'm not using the PVR350 TV out, but the nVidia TV out. But, this is probably irrelevant as the problem seems to be with the recording and not the playback.

Any further insight on this will be greatly appreciated.

I'd been using MythTV fairly succesfully for a while now on a 866MHz P3
with a PVR350 running FC2. Lately, however, I found out that all the
recordings I make are bad. When played back, the video seems to
randomly skip several frames, FF and REV do not work, and the recording
stops playing (whatever small pieces of it are actually played) way too
soon. I tried playing the recordings on another PC and they are indeed
bad. At the same time, I don't have any problem at all with live TV. I
guess this means that video capturing works fine, and something else
related to recording is messed up. I can't tell when and why this
started. Any ideas or clues as to what the problem can be?

I'm assuming that you've checked your Default recording settings as well as those for LiveT. Maybe you have some transcoding rules set up that are converting the recorded progs into something of poorer quality? That could explain why LiveTV is good and the recordings aren't.

Phill
