And if I do mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=0.2 -ac hwac3 dvd://1 I get no sound at all. My receive gives me a decode error.
anyway I'm no expert in ALSA.. I followed instructions from here: http://www.mythtv.info/moin.cgi/DigitalSoundHowTo
I seem to remember there are problems with digital out for ALSA 1.0.6. Check that you are not using this..
