As mentioned in mythtv-dev, this does not prevent the segfault for me.

As an update to my first message I would like to note that what really happens 
is that when I select Watch TV the screen turns black for 2 seconds and then 
I hear sound for about half a second (just long enough to hear that the sound 
is different every time I try and is actually the sound that can be heard on 
the channel that is selected) and then I return to X and mythfrontend has 
crashed. Note that there is never anything other than a black screen.
