Yes, lirc is still used. Each receiver has its own device ID number set individually. Lirc sends the pulses to all receivers at once, whether they have the ID being controlled or not.
I set up my lircd.conf with entries like "power-1" and "power-2" within the same lirc device. That way, I can use the same script to send the codes for both receivers, using the same IR device name. I just add a digit (1 or 2) to the commandline in mythtv's setup program, so it tells the script which device number to put on the end.
