Very possible. 

Step 1) Somewhere in the mythfrontend setup screens there is a page
that asks for commercial detection settings. You can specify things
like blank frame, logo detection, all. If the channel is not defined
as commercial free, or you specify commercial flagging in the job
queue in the options for the recording then the commercials will be
flagged.

Step 2) I _think_ you can then get them cut out automatically by
setting up some transcode rules - you can automatically convert the
recording from quality "A" to quality "A" and in the process I think
the commercials will be removed via cut list rules. Someone might like
to confirm this.

However, if you have your settings in mythfronted setup to
automatically skip commercials on playback then there's no need to
bother with Step 2) unless you want to burn to CD/DVD.
