It has been awhile since I did any serious mainboard shopping for anything high end. I have been using nforce based boards lately as being reasonable compromises. Intel does seem the way to go for high def, but you might compare them cost wise as well as performance wise.
At any rate take a look at anandtech.com if you haven't already. It has been awhile sine I used that site much, but it almost always had valuable information on it. I'd particularly look for something rated as reliable since for a home theater device you don't want to have to deal with anything marginal.
