With all the talk of home automation/integration, don't forget about MisterHouse, http://misterhouse.sourceforge.net/. It's written in perl, and controls a variety of X10 devices. Might be a good place to look for ideas, or even wrap MisterHouse with the Myth menus and layout. Josh
