Xine does work though, exactly once per insertion of a DVD. If I try to use it a second time, it doesn't work. I don't think dd has a chance to work, since there was no dvdcss auth done... I think dvdbackup seems to solve my "you can authenticate only one time" problem with this dvd drive. At least it seems to have made a nice copy of the DVD I threw at it. Now to see how to get myth (or something else) to transcode from a directory tree rather than a /dev/dvd device file. Drew
