Somewhere on the Xine site I found something like "Xine will negotiate with the driver whether or not it can do hardware decoding", not sure what the criteria are. I *do* know that DVDs play with low CPU. My avi's and mpg's on disk take usually around 50-60% CPU on a 1280x768 screen.
