Faster journaling systems like Reiser, JSF and XFS only offer advantages, AFAIK, if you have many reads and writes going on. If you had a busy file server with dozens or hundreds of users then ext3 may not be for you. For something like a MythTV box I doubt anything above ext3 offers any advantages.
