I DEFINITELY recommend checking your sound settings as stated earlier. That is how the video is synced to the audio (unless video as timebase is selected). You also might want to check out your xorg log file for anything fishy in there. You can get more log information on the console by starting mythfrontend with the '-v playback' or '-v audio' arguments.
