Looking for the advice of people from more DVB advanced countries.
Our local cable provider now offers 40 digital channels. They offer a Nokia set-top box for 199 € that comes with a CAM card. No extra subscription is needed.
Would this just work if I put the the CAM card in a DVB-C pc card? Would it work with a DVD-C card without card? Are there limitations/things to make sure before I go out and buy a card?
I don't know what CA system your provider use but if the channels are encrypted you need:
1) A DVB card with at least one CI (=Common Interface) slot 2) A CAM (=CA Module) that handles their CA system 3) A smart card/subscriber's card
There are many different types of CAMs and you need to get one that is compatible with your DVB card and your provider's CA system.
For a list of supported CAMs take a look here: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Supported_CAM_modules
