I don't know that a 350 would help him.  I have one, but I made the mistake of 
having a switch box on top of the TV for the PS2/PS etc.  As a last ditch 
problem solver the wife can always switch back directly to the directv output 
if the myth system gets fried when I'm not at home for some reason.  The 
problem is, one day she was switching back and forth and said "why isn't the 
picture as clear from the home made system as direct?"  Smart little cookie.

Is getting a 350 or using a vga-tv converter out of the question?
Seems like you gave the simplest answer to your question already.  On
the downside it costs more money, but you didnt say you were adverse
to that idea.
