I used to get this because I hadn't set ivtv-debug=0, so I was getting a-lot of extra (useless) debug information in the log. And, since it was constatly writing, the disk was constantly active. Setting that to zero fixed the issue and now my HDD light is an accurate indication that myth is recording something (if I'm not watching a recording).
