To get lm_sensors to work on my pundit-r automatically on boot, I
added the following lines to the end of /etc/rc.d/rc.local:

# I2C adapter drivers
modprobe i2c-isa
# I2C chip drivers
modprobe it87
# setup devices for lm_sensors
/usr/bin/sensors -s

I also installed gkrellm, which offers a handy GUI for the lm_sensors
output, among others.
