My understanding is that when Live TV is selected Myth grabs the first input device it can find that is not currently in use. I believe by default it starts at device 0 and works its way to the higher numbered devices until one is found. There is also a setting somewhere (mythtvsetup?) where you can enable some additional 'intelligence' in the selection of the default device for live tv.
