What version of the ivtv driver are you using ?  I'm still on 0.1.9,
and every so often a reboot will yield a failure to load firmware. 
You should be seeing some pretty evident messages on your backend if
this is the case.  If so, shut down and power off (pull cable to be
sure after), wait a few minutes and cross your fingers.  Worked here.
