' -aspect 16:9' to the ffmpeg command made the difference. I'm just wondering, how come it was this easy? A bug perhaps?
Well, until recently, mythtv didn't actually store any aspect ratio info for its recordings, so it was pointless to try to guess what it was. Since then, call it laziness (or other projects).
