I would appear your have a mysql permission problem. This is external to the filesystem and cannot be resoved by chmod. You probably need to recover your root password first, you can find details on doing that here: http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/linux-adv/mysql.htm#_Toc92853771 Once you can access mysql via the command line repeat the mysql section of Jarod's guide here: http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php#mysql And finally run mythtvsetup, if you still have problems post the mysql command related output too so we can help diagnose.
