I don't think I'm running VNC ("ps -ef | rep vnc" shows nothing) and I get two instances of the frontend with the power button script.  Any thoughts on that one?

VNC starts before the script gets run, so folks would end up launching
mythfrontend in their VNC session and then not on the actual desktop (since
it was already running), thus the need to look at $DISPLAY instead.

I think this should work well enough. I'll get around to changes on my end
