Even watching video on a remote frontend I get jumpy recordings, I
confirmed that I wasn't getting this on .17 when I downgraded. I wonder
if this is somehow unique to those of us with frame grabbers.

I'm not having quite as much of a dramatic jump as you, but I noticed
that recording in MPEG4 format now takes about 50% of my P4 2.4 GHz
(with hyperthreading), whereas it used to be more like 30%. I've had
to turn of Bob deinterlacing on playback, otherwise live TV is
unusable (although that might be partly due to a problem with XV -- I
get around 60% CPU usage just playing back, but that was true in .17).

Has anyone else seen this, I have an Athlon XP 2500+ with 512MB of
RAM and an ATI TV wonder tuner. After installing mythtv 0.18 today
I'm getting 100% CPU load all the time, recording or not where
previously I had gotten ~ 60% while recording. The log doesn't show
anything insightful. I'm also using Gentoo 2005.0 in case that is of
use.
