Make sure that your transcoding settings are set to encode to a different format/bitrate after the fact. I have my transcoding set to recompress to MPEG4, 2200 and 48Khz sound (I'm an audio geek)... Figure I'm at about 700Mb for 30 minutes right now after recoding.
