I modified the code last week to be able to handle recursive random slide shows through subdirectories. As soon as I clean up the code I will post the patch.
I was going to reply the same, but maybe I'll let you have the honor :-) I've got some mythmusic patches waiting to get in, so I put this one on hold. My patch includes a GUI setting to enable it, and also has caption support (using an external command to fetch a caption, and overlaying it onto the slideshow)
