Hi all,

Are there any HOWTO’s or notes on building a dedicated Backend (with remote front-ends) without X or KDE?

Is there some issue you are having trouble with? As far as I'm aware, mythbackend doesn't need X at all, just run it as a daemon.

If you don't want to even have X on the system, just configure Myth from another machine, like one of the frontends that _does_ have X available. For example, ssh -X into the backend from a frontend and run mythsetup.

With my limited knowledge of Mythtv, I am thinking that the Backend would have less to do if it did not have the overhead of X and KDE

For sure. If you don't have any users or GUI apps running on the backend, there's little reason to keep all that stuff fired up. Run at runlevel 3. If you have room to have X and KDE installed, fine, you don't need to always run it. If you don't have room for it, don't install it. :)
